GIF to MP4 converter

Turn GIF files into MP4 for free. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so your pictures are never uploaded anywhere.

How to convert GIF to MP4

  1. Add your GIF files. Drop one or more .gif files on the box above, or tap it to pick them from your device.
  2. Let it convert. The first image you convert loads the converter once (about 31 MB, then cached). After that it runs on your device; a progress bar shows how far along it is.
  3. Download the MP4. Press Download next to each file. Nothing was sent to a server, so close the tab and it's gone.

What is a GIF file?

GIF is the classic format for short looping animations and simple graphics. It is limited to 256 colors per frame.

What is MP4?

MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound is the most compatible video format there is. It plays on every phone, TV, browser and editing app and is what social networks expect.

Why convert GIF to MP4?

GIF is great for animations that play anywhere without a video player, but only 256 colors, and animated GIFs are very large compared with video. MP4 is the better choice for playing and uploading everywhere; keep in mind slightly larger than modern codecs like VP9 or AV1 at the same quality.

Will I lose quality?

MP4 uses lossy compression tuned so the difference is invisible at normal use. We use high-quality settings by default.

Private by design

Most online converters upload your file to their servers. This one doesn't: the converter itself is loaded into your browser and works offline from there, so your pictures never leave your phone or computer.
