What is a JPG file?

JPG (JPEG) is the most widely supported picture format in the world. It uses lossy compression tuned for photographs, so files stay small while photos look natural.

What is AVIF?

AVIF is a next-generation image format based on the AV1 video codec. It often makes files half the size of JPG with better detail, plus HDR, wide color and transparency.

Why convert JPG to AVIF?

JPG is great for opens everywhere: every phone, browser, email client, website builder and print shop, but no transparency, and each re-save loses a little quality. AVIF is the better choice for the smallest files for the quality, ideal for fast websites; keep in mind many desktop apps, older phones and social media uploaders still can't open AVIF.

Will I lose quality?

AVIF uses lossy compression tuned so the difference is invisible at normal use. We use high-quality settings by default, and you can raise the quality slider before converting.

Private by design

Most online converters upload your file to their servers. This one doesn't: the converter itself is loaded into your browser and works offline from there, so your pictures never leave your phone or computer.
