What is a JPG file?

JPG (JPEG) is the most widely supported picture format in the world. It uses lossy compression tuned for photographs, so files stay small while photos look natural.

What is JXL?

JPEG XL (JXL) is a modern image format designed to replace JPEG. It compresses better than JPG, supports lossless, HDR and transparency, and can repack existing JPGs without loss.

Why convert JPG to JXL?

JPG is great for opens everywhere: every phone, browser, email client, website builder and print shop, but no transparency, and each re-save loses a little quality. JXL is the better choice for excellent quality per byte and true lossless mode; keep in mind Chrome, Edge, Firefox and most apps can't open JXL yet, so you often need a JPG or PNG copy.

Will I lose quality?

JXL uses lossy compression tuned so the difference is invisible at normal use. We use high-quality settings by default, and you can raise the quality slider before converting.

Private by design

Most online converters upload your file to their servers. This one doesn't: the converter itself is loaded into your browser and works offline from there, so your pictures never leave your phone or computer.
