What is a PNG file?
PNG is a lossless image format. Every pixel is kept exactly, and it supports full transparency, which makes it the standard for logos, screenshots and graphics.
What is JXL?
JPEG XL (JXL) is a modern image format designed to replace JPEG. It compresses better than JPG, supports lossless, HDR and transparency, and can repack existing JPGs without loss.
Why convert PNG to JXL?
PNG is great for lossless quality and transparent backgrounds that work everywhere, but photos as PNG are much larger than the same photo as JPG or WebP. JXL is the better choice for excellent quality per byte and true lossless mode; keep in mind Chrome, Edge, Firefox and most apps can't open JXL yet, so you often need a JPG or PNG copy.
Will I lose quality?
JXL uses lossy compression tuned so the difference is invisible at normal use. We use high-quality settings by default, and you can raise the quality slider before converting.
Private by design
