WebP is Google's modern web image format. It makes files about 25 to 35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality and supports transparency and animation.
Why convert PNG to WebP?
PNG is great for lossless quality and transparent backgrounds that work everywhere, but photos as PNG are much larger than the same photo as JPG or WebP. WebP is the better choice for small files for websites, with transparency; keep in mind some older apps, editors and upload forms still refuse WebP.
Will I lose quality?
WebP uses lossy compression tuned so the difference is invisible at normal use. We use high-quality settings by default, and you can raise the quality slider before converting.
